Description
Phil Barron, Memory of a flood, 2025 oil on canvas mounted on board, diptych. Image courtesy the artist.
Artist’s Statement:
This artwork represents a memory of the flooded Tweed River. The canvasses have been worked up in oil paint, dried over time, and then sanded back to reveal a washed-out surface with parts of the ground and canvas showing through, as if a remnant of the flood has been given up by the river.
The diptych reflects a memory, a veil of rain and cloud, the swollen river swirling is coded in the fabric of the canvas, floating logs and detritus slowly moving down river. The landscape is wet and indistinct, misted and foggy, unstopping drizzle saturating the earth.
