Description
Michael Francas, City rubble – evanescence 2025, acrylic on canvas. Image courtesy the artist.
Artist’s Statement:
Evanescent – soon passing out of sight, memory, or existence. This painting explores the impermanence of the human-built environment relative to the natural environment it cohabits within the context of a war zone. The destruction of cities – their buildings, infrastructure, peoples and their cultures produce discomforting images that give me a sense of futility at the untold despair such havoc must wreak.
In terms of paint application this work presents a chaotic environment, sketchy and fragmented, drained of brightness using a muted palette. Lacking the presence of inhabitants, the landscape elicits a sense of desolation.
