Artist’s Statement:
This is a painting I made in response to the urban landscape I see on a daily basis in the area in which I live in Albany. I like to take the built landscape and the people and animals that inhabit it as ingredients, and using the medium of oil paint, attempt to make a satisfying image. I manipulate these elements to create an aesthetically pleasing design, which is my main priority.
If there is some suggestion of a narrative, albeit an ambiguous and/or prosaic one, then so much the better. I enjoy the challenge of using what may be considered mundane views and present them in ways that might question traditional notions of beauty.
