Artist’s Statement:
As child I had chosen a landscape to hang on my bedroom wall; each night my eyes would travel those frosty fields, now permanently etched into my memory, as I drifted into sleep. As an adult who struggles to sleep, I was thinking of creating a bedside artwork, a calming idle that blurs the real and fantasy, that transports the viewer to another place, that helps transcend from awake to asleep.
In this print I have portrayed a romanticised Australian bushland, a wild place, a pattern of leaves and flowing plant forms in a harmonious palette; layering the lino print and burnishing it with colour to create a certain luminosity – a tangled dreamland to visit each night before sleep.
