Artist’s Statement:
The twisted white trunks of Mia trees tumble down the ancient Pilbara hillsides, their tortured forms shaped by a relentless and unforgiving climate. Amid this vast, rugged expanse, I was captivated by two trees appearing to bow to each other; a fleeting, poetic moment set against the raw intensity of the land.
Through layers of cold wax, I carved and scratched into the surface, building depth and texture to evoke the ochre-rich rocky outcrops, resilient spinifex, and weathered stony plains. This process mirrors the landscape’s endurance, capturing both its beauty and the powerful forces that shape it.
