Artist’s Statement:
I got the idea for this painting while riding my bicycle around Yangebup Lake, near where I live. I came around a corner and saw a park bench framed by a background of trees, it looked quite magical. I went back later and made a study in gouache, intending to complete the final oil painting in my studio.
From the beginning, I had imagined a couple sitting there. So, I invited my friends Aidan and Véronique to pose for me, along with Véronique’s dog, Gigi. I promised them lunch afterwards. I wanted to capture the likeness of Aidan, Véronique, and Gigi. But when it came to the environment, I was more interested in expressing the power, flow, and mystery of nature.
