Artist’s Statement:
Forever Beach maps a quintessentially Western Australian experience of summer through a familiar pattern of sunlight, sand and water. While the painting does not depict any of this it attempts to stimulate associations in the viewer’s mind.
Forever Beach is part of the Kairos Series of paintings, each created by interlacing two autonomous paintings made on two different occasions. This painting combines two distinct moments that appear simultaneously on the same surface. Separated by a geometric system that interrupts yet also completes them – together they both form a new painting. The geometric system has the effect of splintering the painting into small fragments, not unlike a mosaic.
