MEDIA RELEASE | 10 September 2024
The Yellow Brick Road is back for the first time since 2017, inviting families to enjoy fun-filled activities and learn about food, farming and sustainability.
This year’s Yellow Brick Road will centre around our new mascot, Lucy the Border Collie. Participants will follow the largest Yellow Brick Road journey to date – with up to 12 stops offering lunch, educational activities and exclusive collective items.
At the family friendly price of $15, the show bag offers a starter bag with pencil and map, leading to a treasure hunt across the showgrounds which can take up to two and a half hours.
From planting spinach seeds at the Horticulture Hub to taking AI-enhanced historical selfies at the Perth Mint, each stop provides a memorable time.
The fun and interactive trail is targeted at kids aged 6-12, but all ages can join in!
The Yellow Brick Road is available to purchase online when securing your tickets – there is a limit of 20,000 bags on offer.
Alternatively, bags can be purchased between 10am and 3pm in-person at Showground information booths or our dedicated Sales Booth on AgVenture Hill.
Participants receive a branded drawstring bag, activity booklet, and pencil, allowing them to embark on an “ag-filled” adventure. The trail can be done in any order, with a recommended trail route in the booklet. Patrons can start / stop the trail at any of the points once collecting the booklet.
The Yellow Brick Road bag offers a great value day out for less and invites our patrons to visit areas of the show they may not have previously experienced.
The journey makes the Yellow Brick Road an unmissable part of the Show, filled with hands-on fun, educational activities, and memorable takeaways!
The Yellow Brick Road is made possible by the wonderful volunteers and partners involved.
We expect record breaking sales this year, so we urge all patrons to jump online and secure their Yellow Brick Road experience before they all sell out!
Lucy, the Yellow Brick Road’s most treasured mascot, says: “I can’t believe it! Me, Lucy the Border Collie, am the official Yellow Brick Road mascot for the Perth Royal Show! I’m so excited to meet all the kids and show them around. I’m going to be their furry best friend while they learn about all the amazing things farmers do. It’s going to be a woof-tastic adventure!”

History
- The Yellow Brick Road Showbag is a nostalgic favourite for showgoers across Australia, featuring at Show’s from Adelaide to Melbourne to Sydney.
- The bag was created as a way of showcasing the agricultural elements of Shows along with healthy snack options.
- The Yellow Brick Road at Perth Royal Show dates back to 1997 where it started with a handful of stops in the Fresh Food Pavilion.
- It was originally managed by a company called Fresh Finesse, with the representative being a member of the RASWA Fresh Food Committee.
- Patrons purchased the Yellow Brick Road ‘Brick’ (cardboard box with handles) and collected items such as fresh fruit and vegetables, sausage on a stick and a flavoured milk.
- In the mid 2000’s, RASWA took ownership and management of the Yellow Brick Road and the trail evolved to include interactive educational activities teaching kids (and parents!) where their food comes from.
- The footprint of the trail was also gradually increased to guide patrons around the Showgrounds, including the addition of the animal pavilions where the educational activations stops were located.
- Below photo is from 2006 so around then also saw the demise of the brick and bags were introduced (probably a lot easier to carry around). Bag sales in 2006 were 10,500 up from 7,500 in 2005.
- It is notoriously the best value for money Showbag for families.
