DAYS TO GO

Wool Fashion Renaissance Returns to the Perth Royal Show

MEDIA RELEASE | 22 September 2024

The highly anticipated Wool Fashion Show is making a grand return to the Perth Royal Show, featuring a stunning selection of high-end and contemporary fashion.

This exclusive one-day event will be held on Monday 23 September, at the Horwood Pavilion (Sheep Pavilion), with two sessions at 11:30 AM and 2:00 PM.

An exciting lineup of designs from three Australian brands will highlight the beauty and adaptability of wool in modern fashion.

  • WA-based Swooley by Scanlan champions timeless designs that fuse modern aesthetics with traditional craftsmanship.
  • Zoe May delivers high-end fashion with a commitment to eco-friendly, sustainable practices.
  • McIntyre Merino is all about performance-driven designs made with soft, breathable Merino wool, making it perfect for the modern lifestyle.

The show celebrates the journey from farm to sustainable fashion, showcasing the versatility of wool garments – from luxury to everyday comfort.

Perth-based freelance stylist Rochelle Renwick, has curated the looks for the show, working with designers to celebrate heritage and the future of wool fashion.

Rochelle says, “Wool can redefine your wardrobe in an era where fast fashion is losing ground to sustainability. What makes this event particularly special is its authentic tie to the agricultural roots of wool production.”

In a nod to tradition, the parade will be held on the shearing board. Shearers will introduce each brand, providing insights into the world of wool while demonstrating the close connection between farming and fashion. A special appearance by a lamb will further symbolise the full life cycle of sheep farming, from shearing to sustainability.

More than 60 local talents – including hair stylists, makeup artists, and models – have come together to make the 2024 Wool Fashion Parade a success.

Wool has long been a cornerstone of the Australian agricultural industry, particularly in Western Australia, the nation’s largest producer.

The Wool Competition was originally held in the Ellie Eaton Pavilion, which opened in 1974, with the parade held in a 300-seat theatre. Today, the same building is now used as the Spare Parts Puppet Theatre.

The Wool Fashion Show was a staple at the Showgrounds in the 1970s.

Robyn Sermon, Royal Agricultural Society of WA CEO, says, “Western Australia’s wool industry is crucial. From the hard work of farmers and shearers to the eco-friendly nature of wool production, the Wool Fashion Show aims to educate and inspire attendees to support sustainable fashion. We hope to make this a regular event each year to continue showcasing the importance of the WA wool industry.”

The Royal Agricultural Society of WA is actively seeking sponsors for the Wool Fashion Parade, with plans to expand the show into a daily event at the 2025 Perth Royal Show.
