Following on the resounding success of last year’s auction, the Kelpies for Kids are back at the Perth Royal Show in 2025.
Nine Kelpie puppies will go under the hammer at 3pm tomorrow to raise vital funds for Telethon. The auction will take place in the Sheep Pavilion where the public can watch – and even bid – on pups set to become working dogs across Australia.
These young Kelpies have been generously sponsored by regional families and businesses across Western Australia. Trainers have dedicated countless hours to provide each pup with a strong foundation in livestock handling, preparing them for their future working homes.
The auction is part of the Kelpies for Kids initiative, founded by Kate Willcocks, which supports Telethon’s work in funding medical research, life-saving equipment, and essential services for sick, vulnerable and disadvantaged kids across WA.
“When Rohan and I started Kelpies for Kids, our goal was to raise awareness for children in hospitals and remind families – especially those in rural areas – that we are thinking of them and the challenges they face,” says founder Kate Willcocks.
In a special connection between city and country, each of the nine pups and their trainers have been paired with a child receiving treatment at Perth Children’s Hospital or through Telethon beneficiaries. Many of these children come from regional WA and have joined trainers in preparing pups for working life with cattle and sheep.
The auction is shaping up to be one of the highlights of the Perth Royal Show, celebrating community spirit and generosity while raising money for a cause close to country hearts.
