On Saturday the Royal Agricultural Society of WA (RASWA) announced the winner of the Governor’s Cup, the most prestigious award at the Perth Royal Show, recognising excellence and consistency in Western Australia’s livestock exhibits.

The Governor’s Cup has been the premier award at the Perth Royal Show since 1896, presented each year to the exhibitor achieving the highest overall points across all major livestock competitions, including sheep, cattle, horses, goats and alpacas. More than a century on, the award continues to push higher standards of pedigree breeding and showcases the depth of Western Australia’s agricultural excellence.

The Governor’s Cup was presented by Chief Justice Peter Quinlan Lieutenant Governor of Western Australia & Vice Patron of the Royal Agricultural Society of WA to Adrian, Kylie, Chris, Faye, Sascha and Kelsie Squiers of Shirlee Downs Squiers & Sons in front of exhibitors, breeders, and Show visitors at the Claremont Showground.

The Squiers Family said, “We are incredibly honoured to receive the Governor’s Cup at the Perth Royal Show. Competing across multiple livestock categories is always a challenge, but it’s also a privilege to showcase the quality of our animals and the hard work that goes into breeding them. This award recognises not just one exhibit, but years of dedication and care, and we’re proud to contribute to Western Australia’s strong agricultural tradition.”

RASWA CEO, Robyn Sermon, said the Governor’s Cup represented the pinnacle of achievement at the Perth Royal Show.

“The Governor’s Cup is more than a trophy, it is a symbol of dedication, expertise and generations of commitment to livestock breeding in Western Australia. Winning the Cup is recognition of not just one outstanding exhibit, but excellence across an entire program of breeding and husbandry.”

The enduring presence of the Governor’s Cup at the Perth Royal Show underlines the event’s role in celebrating Western Australia’s agricultural heritage and its ongoing contribution to food, fibre, and farming innovation.
