Perth Royal Wine Show
The Perth Royal Wine Show is WA’s leading wine competition. Established more than 40 years ago, the competition is credited with putting WA on the map as a producer of quality wines.
This year the competition attracted 2400 entries from WA, interstate and New Zealand. A team of judges led by Dr Tony Jordan of Domaine Chandon Australia assessed wines from almost 400 wineries.
Evans and Tate was the most successful WA exhibitor at the 2008 Perth Royal Wine Show. The group’s Margaret River Merlot 2007 Vintage won the best merlot of the Show and its Reserve Shiraz 2005 Vintage was named best WA dry red table wine.
Boutique Geographe Bay winery Flametree Wines was named the competition’s most successful WA processing under 300 tonnes. Flametree Wines Cabernet Merlot 2007 Vintage won the award for best dry red table wine (blends).
The Growers Dedication Series Riesling 2004 Vintage from the group’s Frankland River Powderbark Vineyard notched up four awards winning the best WA wine, best riesling, best WA white wine and the best white wine of the Show.
The Leasingham Bin 61 Shiraz 2005 Vintage was awarded best wine of the Show.
The competition’s most successful exhibitor was McWilliams Wines Pty Ltd.
Goundrey picked up the award for the most outstanding packaging design for its G series labels.
Margaret River region wineries performed well with Palmer Wines Chardonnay 2006 Vintage winning best chardonnay and Chapman Grove picking up the trophy for best dry white table wine (blends) for its Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Vintage. Ferngrove Vineyards Estate won the best cabernet sauvignon award for the Ferngrove Majestic Cabernet 2007 Vintage.
Great Southern winery Shepherd’s Hut won the trophy for best sauvignon blanc of the Show for Shepherds Hut Sauvignon Blanc 2008 Vintage.
