RAS People

The Royal Agricultural Society WA has over 2,500 members who elect 28 councillors to sit on the Council, seven of whom are required to retire each year.

Councillors give their time voluntarily and are responsible for the conduct and management of the RAS. The Councillors' key role is to provide year round and Show time chairmanship of the Royal Show Sections that make up the Royal Show.

The RAS President, Vice President, Treasurer, Finance and Grounds Committee and Executive Committee are elected by the Councillors.

Council also appoints the Director or Chief Executive of the RAS who is a full time paid employee responsible for the day-to-day management of the organisation.

The RAS employs 41 full-time staff who support the Chief Executive. Approximately half of these staff are ground crew, the other half are office personnel.

In addition to the RAS Councillors, management and staff, thousands of volunteers provide their time, skills and knowledge to make the Perth Royal Show the wonderful community event that it is.

CODE OF CONDUCT

The RAS Staff and Councillors' work ethic is guided by the organisations Code of Conduct which includes:

Leadership

The RAS views leadership as a value whereby all individuals exhibit competence in their role, exercise positive communication and make informed decisions. Sound leadership means accepting responsibility and consequences for your actions.

Teamwork

The RAS views teamwork as a value where individuals co-operate and work well with others in the pursuit of organisational goals. It is important to consider individual differences and to provide an open and non-threatening environment whereby team members can share their ideas. The aims and objectives for the team should be clearly defined so that all stakeholders have a clear understanding of the end goal, thereby encouraging support of group decisions.

Respect

The RAS views respect as a value where individuals show courtesy and consideration to all people with whom they interact in the delivery of quality service. Respect is to be mutual between all parties and we ask that people are considerate of others’ commitments and beliefs.

Honesty

The RAS views honesty as a value where individuals uphold ethical standards, inspire trust and demonstrate fairness and integrity in their dealings with others.

Equity

The RAS views equity as a value where the workplace is free from unlawful discrimination and bias and all individuals are offered similar opportunities.

Health

The RAS views health as a value whereby a duty of care is exercised to one’s self, the public, staff and all stakeholders following Occupational Health and Safety guidelines to ensure that any potential harm is eliminated or minimised. The RAS encourages staff to balance work commitments and supports staff in this endeavour.

RAS Committees

RAS's contributions to the West Australian community range in diversity - from the co-ordination of the Agricultural Hall of Fame, to the judging of prime lambs at the Perth Royal Show. Responsibility for the Society's broad-ranging initiatives is largely in the hands of RAS Committees.

RAS Councillors, working together with community volunteers and RASWA Committee Secretaries, head a large number of specialist committees responsible for promoting, developing and managing particular areas of the Society.

A large proportion of RAS committees are focused on rural endeavours related to the Perth Royal Show.
