2008 President Elect's Message
The annual Perth Royal Show is the WesternAustralian community’s biggest and most excitingcelebration. It rewards excellence across a widerange of pursuits from creative crafts to cattle. The Show allows over 400,000 visitors, including many family groups, to enjoy a wide range of displays and to learn more about issues that affect so much of their daily lives.
The best of Australian and international judgesare invited to consider the merits of over 18,000. Exhibits mostly submitted by Western Australians, but supported by a good number of interstate and international entrants that add colour and variety to competition. In essence the Show competitions bring the country to the city at a time when the “rural” experience is somewhat distant for many in our community.
The Perth Royal Show is staged by the non profit Royal Agricultural Society of Western Australia. Our very competent and conscientious staff is supported by many volunteers from the 28 Councillors to several thousand others who contribute to the Section committees and therunning of the Show itself.
The aim of the Show is to entertain and educate. The diversity of displays from over 400 commercial Exhibitors and the excitement and exotic from the 2008 Guest Regional Centre, Wyndham - Kimberley, will ensure that these objectives are met.
Perennial favourites including the many rides, show-bags, baby animals, fireworks and continuous entertainment and activity on the main arena and around the Showground will provide a week long party atmosphere. Each year The Royal Agricultural Society aims to bring something new and breathtaking to the Show. What will it be in 2008?
However it is you, the Exhibitors who are the lifeblood of the Show. In encouraging you to be part of the State’s biggest annual event, I acknowledge your dedication to prepare Exhibits and get them to the Show, your conviction in offering your hard work to be judged against that of your peers and the contribution you make to the experience, entertainment and knowledge of our community.
Please accept my best wishes for a good season and a successful IGA Perth Royal Show 2008.
Tony Devitt - President Elect
The Royal Agricultural Society of WA (Inc.)
