dairy products competition winners

There were almost 300 entries from 32 exhibitors in the dairy products competition at the  IGA Perth Royal Show 2008. 

Tasmanian cheese King Island Dairy Seal Bay Triple Cream was awarded the Champion Dairy Product for the IGA Perth Royal Show 2008.

Cheese

Denmark Farmhouse Cheese won Best Soft Dessert Cheese with added flavour for its Baked Ricotta with Chilli, best soft cheese with added savoury flavour for its Fresh Fromage with Garlic and Onion and best ripened cheese with eye formation for its Gouda Scotsdale.

Challenge Australian Dairy won best mild cheddar cheese under six months for its Capel Choice Mild Cheddar Cheese and best aged cheddar cheese over six months for its Capel Valley Red Waxed Vintage Cheddar.

Borrello Cheese won best ricotta cheese, best fresh unripened cheese with no added flavour for its Provoletta and best feta cheese with no added flavour.

Harvey Cheese won best blue mould ripened cheese for its Harvey Blue and best bacterial surface ripened or smear ripened cheese for its Wicked Washed Rind.

King Island Dairy won best white mould ripened cheese for its champion product, the Seal Bay Triple Cream. It also won first place for its Crème Dessert Toffee Caramel dessert product.

Milk

Peters and Brownes (Fonterra) took out the Champion Flavoured Milk Award for its Choc Chill.

Harvey Fresh won Champion Unflavoured Milk for its Harvey Fresh Skim Milk. It also won best unflavoured UHT milk for Harvey Fresh UHT Skim Milk and best pasteurised cream for its Harvey Fresh Thickened Cream

Casa Dairy Products won best cultured dairy beverage for its Mango Smoothe.

Caprino Farm won the best product made from milk other than cows milk for its Goat Milk Natural Yoghurt.

Yoghurt

Mundella Foods won Champion Yoghurt for its Reduced Fat Vanilla Pot Set Yoghurt.

It also won best yogurt with real fruit and more than 3 per cent fast for its Premium Woodland Fruit Pot Set Yoghurt and best natural yoghurt for its Reduced Fat Natural Pot Set Yoghurt.

Casa Dairy Products won best yoghurt with real fruit and less than 3 per cent fat for its Greek Applestrudel Yoghurt.

King Island Dairy won best yoghurt with more than 3 per cent fat and product other than real fruit for its Honey and Cinnamon Yoghurt.

Ice cream

Azzura Gelati won the Champion Ice cream with its Vanilla Bean ice cream. It also won best icecream/gelati flavoured with real fruit for its Cassata, best icecream/gelati flavoured with products other than real fruit or solely vanilla for its Maroncino and best gourmet style icecream/gelati flavoured with real fruit excluding chocolate for its Rum and Raisin.

Peters and Brownes (Fonterra) won best gourmet style chocolate icecream/gelati for the Connoisseur Chocolate Obsession and best gourmet icecream/gelati not flavoured solely by vanilla, with no fruit, no chocolate and no cocoa derivatives for its Connoisseur Cafe Grand.

Chocolate

Margaret River Chocolate Company won Champion Chocolate and best milk chocolate truffle for its Banana Truffle and best ginger milk chocolate for its Ginger Truffle.

Chokeby Road won best milk chocolate block and best milk chocolate novelty.

Judges described the overall finish of truffles vastly improved this year, saying the banana truffle had great flavour and the milk chocolate block was smooth and sweet with delicate flavours.
