The Perth National Photographic Exhibition offers talented photographers the chance to complete at a national level and have their work assessed by a team of highly qualified judges. There is $4000 in prize money including $500 for the Most Successful Exhibitor. As well, there are prizes of $250, $150 and $100 for those who are awarded first, second and third in each section. The Most Successful Exhibitor from WA will win the WA Photographic Federation Award, the Best Print will win the Australian Photographic Society Silver Plaque, and the Best Youth will win the Australian Photographic Society Herbert Medallion.
The competition features the following sections:
A selection of entries from across competition categories are on display in the Photography Pavilion during the Perth Royal Show where the general public can vote for their favourite photo. The winner of the Peoples’ Choice receives $500, and their photo is placed in the Peoples’ Choice Gallery.
In 2011 the competition attracted nearly 1500 entries from every State and Territory in Australia, with the vast majority coming from WA.
The majority of entrants also now use digital photography rather than chemical processing.
