2008 Cryer Malt Perth Royal Beer Show

The 2008 Cryer Malt Perth Royal Beer Show was an outstanding success attracting 273 entries from 59 breweries across Australia. In its second year the competition was a resounding success and showed an increased number of entries reflecting the continuing growth of the industry. A panel of Western Australian experts judged a variety of full-strength, reduced alcohol, draught and packaged beers within the Commercial and Amateur brewers sections including lagers, ales, stouts and wheat beers. Seventeen class trophies were awarded, 26 gold, 60 silver and 73 bronze medals. The following overall trophies were also awarded:

• Cryer Malt Trophy for the Best Commercial Beer of the Show: Redoak Boutique Beer (NSW) for Redoak Rauch
• Morish Trophy for Best Amateur Beer of the Show: Ian Walker (WA) for Wheat Beer
• Beer & Brewer Magazine Trophy for Best WA Beer of the Show: Nail Brewing for Nail Stout

		Winner of the Best Western Australian Beer of the Show, John Stallwood of Nail Brewing, with Chief Judge, Hugh Dunn. This year a category for gluten-free beers was added to the Commercial Section. Exhibitors this year participated in a beer-tasting function which incorporated the awards. It was also an opportunity to discuss the strengths and weaknesses of their entries with judges and network with industry members.  Chief Judge Hugh Dunn and a team of 17 spent three days judging the entries.

Open to all Australian commercial and amateur brewers, entries for the 2009 Perth Royal Beer Show will close in early May and the competition is scheduled for early June.
