Sheep

Can you tell a Texel from a Corridale or a Poll Dorset? Around 1000 sheep make the Jim Horwood pavilion their home during the Farm Weekly/Landmark Sheep Show and over eight days are judged on their meat, wool or breeding. This year’s feature breed is the Suffolk. From Saturday to Monday fine wool Merinos are on display and from Wednesday to Saturday the meat breeds are judged by experts from around the country.

The action hots up for the live sheep auction on Friday at 1pm. It’s a colourful, noisy affair drawing enthusiastic spectators and buyers. On Thursday at 4pm the Interbreed competition takes place as three sheep from each breed line up in the hope of being named the best breed of the Show.

There are shearing demonstrations all week and keep an eye out for the Rainbow Sheep which kids love.
