Horses
Equestrian action happens everyday on the Main Arena. Some 1000 horses compete in events which include everything from showjumping to elegant carriage display. Commonwealth Bank Pacific League World Cup attracts elite riders from near and far. Different breeds are exhibited everyday from beautiful Arabians and giant Clydesdales to miniature horses, Andalusians, paint horses and thoroughbreds. The under-nine kindergarten rider event is on Monday at 12.45pm.
Elsewhere in the Showground, pat a horse, watch one being washed and talk to riders about care, mustering and camp drafting at the Stock Horse Campsite. Look out for clever riding from Girls, Girls, Girls Trick Riders and a comedy routine from Dan James & Dan Steers both on the Outback Stage. On the Main Arena nightly, Horse Power II features 28 skilled stock horses and their riders with special lighting effects and fireworks. The Camp Draft challenges a rider’s skill to select a cow from the herd and get it through an obstacle course in less than a minute.
